Confirm that the traffic is commercially relevant
Look at the pages people enter through and the search terms visible in Search Console. A guide can attract readers from outside the service area, while a careers page may bring job seekers rather than customers.
Separate useful demand from background activity before redesigning the whole site.
Check the match between search and page
A visitor looking for commercial cleaning should not land on a general page that mostly discusses domestic work. The page needs to confirm quickly that the business handles the exact problem, customer type and location.
If the search intent is broader than the offer, clearer page titles and service pages may reduce traffic while improving enquiry quality. That can be a good result.
Look for unanswered buying questions
When these answers are missing, visitors often leave quietly rather than contacting the business to fill every gap.
- Does the business serve my area?
- Is this the right service for my situation?
- What happens after I enquire?
- What affects the price?
- Can I see relevant work or qualifications?
- How quickly will somebody respond?
Test the contact journey on a real phone
Open the page without using an office Wi-Fi connection. Try the telephone link, form, booking tool and confirmation message. Check whether the keyboard covers fields, validation is understandable and the form actually arrives.
A conversion problem can be as ordinary as an expired booking link or a form notification going to an old inbox.
Review proof at the decision point
Generic claims such as ‘trusted’ and ‘high quality’ do little without evidence. Place relevant projects, verified credentials, genuine reviews or process information near the service and call to action they support.
Different services may need different proof. A customer considering a large contract wants more reassurance than somebody booking a low-risk first appointment.
Make sure tracking is telling the truth
A button click is not a completed enquiry. Track form success, booking confirmation, telephone clicks and other meaningful events separately.
Compare the data with the inbox and call records. If analytics reports twelve forms and the business received none, the measurement or delivery route is broken.
Change one important thing at a time
Start with the strongest evidence: an unclear opening, unsuitable traffic, a broken form or missing price guidance. Make the change, note the date and review real enquiries over a sensible period.
Changing the headline, layout, offer and advertising together makes it difficult to learn what helped.
