Mobile is a different situation, not a smaller desktop
The customer may have one hand free, a weak connection and limited patience. Important information needs to appear in a useful order rather than being squeezed into the desktop layout.
Prioritise the service, location, proof and next step. Decorative details should not push those answers several screens down.
Make contact controls easy to use
- Telephone numbers open the dialler
- Buttons are large enough and spaced apart
- Forms use appropriate mobile input types
- The booking tool fits the screen
- Menus can be opened and closed with a keyboard
- The main action remains clear without covering content
Keep the first screen useful
A large logo, announcement bar and oversized photograph can consume the whole screen before the customer learns what the business does. Brand presence matters, but clarity comes first.
Test several common phone sizes rather than relying only on a design preview.
Reduce form friction
Use labels that remain visible, show errors next to the correct field and preserve the customer’s entries after validation. Ask only for information needed at the first stage.
File uploads, date pickers and address fields need particular testing because they can behave differently across devices.
Speed is part of the experience
Large photographs, video backgrounds and unnecessary scripts can delay the information the customer needs. Optimise assets and load non-essential features carefully.
A fast empty page is not useful, but a beautiful page that takes too long to become usable can lose the enquiry before the message appears.
Do not hide reassurance on mobile
Responsive design sometimes removes reviews, project details or explanatory text to save space. That can leave the mobile customer with less evidence than the desktop customer.
Condense and reorder proof rather than deleting what supports the decision.
Run a five-minute mobile check
- Can you identify the service and area quickly?
- Can you read the text without zooming?
- Can you reach a person or form easily?
- Does the menu stay out of the way?
- Are key details visible before the footer?
- Does the confirmation explain what happens next?
